Hello, I'm a US citizen living in Tokyo Japan and just got my first dog...a Chocolate Lab I named Charlie!
He was born July 15th 2011 in Fukushima Japan...yes, that Fukushima. He was discounted and I think that might be why since there is a lot of fear around Fukushima in Japan right now.
Being a first time dog owner, I looked into a few breeds I've always liked and made sure they were good for first time owners. Everything I read said that Labs were some of the easier dogs to train. I'd believe it too. Charlie can pick up on things very very fast...but he can also be stubborn about things like not scooping up everything on the ground when we go for walks. I feel like all I ever say sometimes is "Leave It!" followed by mouth fishing for foreign objects. lol
He's a great boy though and has a heart of gold. Love people and other animals...sometimes too much. lol He's getting very well behaved when it's me and him in the apartment but if you introduce a new person to the room...you'd think I never spent 5 minutes training him.
Anyway, here are a few pictures from Day 1 until very recent.

Welcome. Expect to be fishing for quite some time. I have no idea how these dogs would survive in the wild with noone to save them from themselves.

Love the pic of him in the bookcase. You'll have to take more of that pose until he doesn't fit anymore!
It's amazing what our puppy (9 months yesterday) can hide in her mouth. "Artemis, what's in your mouth?" "Nuffin mom, nuffin at all" "what's rattling on your teeth?" "my tongue?"....hand goes in and comes back empty..."told you there was nuffin there"...hand goes in again and comes back with a paper clip...."nuffin there now!"
