HI! I'm Cara, Mama to Chief. He is a former Service Dog and will be 7 years old in a week. All of his Vet records just say "Yellow Labrador" as his breed, but many people think he has some sort of Hound dog mixed in him as well. I don't care what his breed is though because in the couple months since he's joined our family he's already proven above and beyond that he is one truly awesome dog!
Here are a couple of my favorite pictures of Chief so far. You can click on them to see them bigger...

A little bit about me... I'm a military wife of over a decade, student of Veterinary Technology, and have a daughter currently in second grade who is the light of my life! When I'm not taking care of duties around the house, studying, or walking the dog, I love to take pictures of what ever catches my eye or read a book. I grew up with a Yellow Lab Mix. She was crossed with a Golden Retriever. I think because of her I had a soft spot set deep in my heart for Yellow Lab mixes so when we were asked if Chief could join our home it was sort of a no-brainer
I look forward to getting to know this group and learning lots!
Welcome, welcome, welcome!! Glad to have you here.

Cute Lab
Welcome! I agree, Chief is handsome!
Welcome and the pictures are great!
The voices in my head may not be real, but they have some good ideas!
Thanks for such a warm welcome everyone, and so many compliments on my 'stinky boy'!
Based upon these pictures, does it look like he conforms to breed standards? I was thinking that he doesn't. His ears seem too big and floppy, his eyes seem too deep, I think he's too tall, and his nose isn't black. He is 85 pounds and has long legs and a lean midsection. If any of you want me to, I could see if he will cooperate for a measuring session.
Not that it matters if he is breed standard or not, I just like knowing more about these things. It would be nice to know what you all think, and if he isn't pure, what you think he's mixed in with. I've thought about doing one of those genetic tests some day but don't know where to go to get one or how much they cost, or if it would even be worth it to do so since we don't show him or place him in any sort of competition.
He reminds me of my Buddy boy, he is 95 lbs long and lean.
He is purebred Field bred lab, which is the longer lankier type lab.
I have had people tell me my Buddy has Dane in him cause he is
so tall ! But, I have papers that show he is purebred.
If you like, I can post a pic of him for you to compare............
Welcome to the board!
