Trooper is my third lab. I bought my first one, a black female, from what I now figure was a puppy mill (Missouri leads the pack in puppy mills...). I bred her with a yellow male who was a champion dog. Kept the pick of the litter. That was over 20 years ago. Three years ago, I got Trooper from the same breeder. He is a smart, spirited yellow lab. My breeder found a rescue black lab that was close to being euthanized...I'm going today to check him out to see if he will be a good fit for our family....call me crazy!
Where is everyone else from?
Trooper's Momma
hi
you bred a puppy mill female?
Yes, I bred a puppy mill female!
She was 3 years old, had a brucellosis, x-rays and all the rest of the tests, shots, and exams you would ordinarily do when you breed any pedigreed animal. She passed with flying colors. The reason I say the kennel might have been a puppy mill was because he bred his dogs and flew them out all over the country as well as to pet stores. The kennels were clean and the animals were all healthy and in good condition.
Yes, a very long time ago. You can't just assume wrong about puppy mills. Yes, the media have shown them to be horrific with animals that are very mistreated and who live in squalor.
The assumption that because Midnight came from a puppy mill she was a poor quality lab is misguided. Like anything we do with our pets, responsibility is important. Had she given ANY indication that she was a poor candidate for motherhood, I would have had her spayed right off the bat. Like I said, she was bred with a state champion Labrador Retriever. His owner made me jump through a lot of hoops and it wasn't an inexpensive venture either. Now where are those darned photos??? lol
i was just surprised that she was bred, because of everything i know about mills.
glad you managed to get a "good one" from what you feel was a mill. i dont necessarily think they're all created equal but i did have the feeling that they dont do all the testing before they breed.
love to see your pics.
