I use a shedding blade on Zeus Amy his hair is so much longer than Mocha's and he sheds a lot worse too. It works really good on him and he doesn't seem to mind it too much. The Zoom groom works ok when he's not blowing coat but the shedding blade works better.

A shedding blade, huh? Is that what they recommend for Goldens? She just got in her adult coat so I don't think she needs that yet.
We were so glad when we got it. It makes a mess (trust me, do it outside because it doesn't catch the fur like a brush does) but it gets rid of so much of it at once. It really is amazing. We've actually been really lucky with Brooklyn so far for grooming. We just clean her ears and teeth, trim her nails and watch for matting in her fur. She's been very easy. We've never sent her to the groomer. The only thing I sometimes butcher is her paw-fur. That really needs to be done pretty regularly, especially since we have wood floors and she loses traction when running from The Reminator. Luckily DH does it so nice...I just have to nag him to do it.

I'm just seeing this. Major league cool, Amy! I hear ya about the hair- our friend's Golden that we used to babysit shed more than our Siberian/GSD mix. Not only that, the Golden's top coat floated all over the place. Good thing I'mnot a fussy housekeeper. LOL A shedding blade, huh? Is that what they recommend for Goldens?...
Shedding blades work great on just about any breed, especially those with a double coat. We used them on the Elkhounds when I was growing up. I've used one on the Siberian/GSD mix, the Golden we babysat, Mick and Caleb. But, like someone mentioned, make sure to use it outside- it doesn't hold the hair like a comb or Zoom Groom does, so the hair flies all over. Oh, and don't stand down wind while you're using it, either.

especially those with a double coat. Do goldens have a double coat like labs? Yep. Which is great because dirt just dries and comes right off them. Its tough when you are bathing them to get them wet all the way through. Brooklyn gets a weekly bath due to her allergies...which goldens are unfortunately prone to fyi.

Which is great because dirt just dries and comes right off them. Duh, I knew that! You know that picture I posted of her in this thread? Half hour later she was good as new. OK, I'm leaving work now. I'm gonna take some pics tonight of her.

Yeah, the hair is a pain! I always have Holly hair tumbleweeds blowing around on the hard floors. But it's totally worth it to me. Holly is so entertaining. She's the goofiest dog I've ever known.

I wasn't on much yesterday and missed this. Great news! Macy is such a cutie, and I'm sure she'll be so much happier out of the crate and with two big brothers!
