WC/WCX
What a beautiful day to be out with our dogs!! The only bad things were the bugs!! Huge mosquitos and lots of gnats!
Kona qualified for his WC without a problem. He did have to hunt up his first bird but he kept his nose working going back and forth until he got to it. I could hear the judges behind me saying "go right not left". They had all of us (13 dogs) do a bonus retrieve on land that didn't count. No issues with the back to back water retrieves.
We had six dogs running for the WCX and Kona was the only one without a hunting title. On the WCX he broke on the first bird of the double. When he got to the bird the judge had signaled for the second bird and he headed that way to get both birds but I was able to get him back to me with the first retrieve. I had a hard time getting him to line up for the second retrieve ......he wanted to go back to the same fall and wouldn't follow my hand to mark to my right. The judge said "he does gloves doesn't he?" and I heard Norma say step up. Once I did that I got him to mark like we do with gloves and sent him and he went straight to the bird. We didn't do the water doubles since he broke.
I had a great time and met some really nice people from the club. I am so glad that Kona is able to do the retrieving without limping that night.
