Hello there we are just getting into hunting and field training. We hadn't initially wanted to do this when we got our dogs but as we learn more and talk to more people we would really like to get our dogs into this. We have both of them in a basic hunting/gun dog class with the local retriever club. We have a 1 1/2 old and 11 month old so we are behind the curve and trying to catch up. What are the best ways to introduce real birds??? Both retrieve bumpers, tennis balls and toys really well. (Angus especially, really excited to see how he does) It is still winter up here, still hanging around zero. I am also having trouble finding anybody with birds, the only thing i can find is frozen mallards left over from last year. Is this ok to start with or something else?? I would really appreciate any suggestions and thoughts Thank you very much!!
A mallard wing is great to start with and YES for an older lab to , frozen ducks are ok that's all we use this time of year eH .
