    Default Scotty's review

We trained with a local trainer on Saturday. He runs his dogs in Derby/Qual and Hunt Tests. He saw Scotty for the first time about a year ago and Scotty wanted nothing to do with a bird. Well, he was very pleased with Scotty progress since then. We ran two set ups of three singles each. We did not measure the first set up distances, but they were comparable to the second set up which had two marks at 140 yards and one mark at 120 yards in light to moderate cover (not on mowed lawn). Here is what he said:

I said it once but gotta say it again, I was very impressed with Scotty. I will never again stereotype the conformation dogs. I've only seen a couple dogs from show breeding run and they were painful to watch. Had absolutely no desire to do field work. Honestly thought field work had been bred out of them. Scotty on the other hand showed nice drive and desire and marking ability as well. Sad that his elbows are bad he would be a good candidate to help bridge the gap between the venues. You also should be commended for the work you have done with him. My view of Scotty changed drastically from my initial opinion. Keep up the good work.
I am so pleased to hear such a nice review of Scotty! I hope we can continue to improve and also get Scotty's JH this year. Scotty is doing his single T and we need to move on to double T and further. He should make a fine handling dog and can probably get SH.

Scotty is all that and more! You have done such a nice job with him Tatyana! It's been great watching him progress. From what I can tell (and it don't mean much!) I see absolutely no reason why Scotty could not get his SH. He's a good boy who loves to please and definately has no problem picking up the "icky" birds anymore LOL!

Good job Scotty! You are awesome!

You should be very proud of Scotty & yourself, Tatyana. I think it is so special that he has progressed so well. Molly does not have the desire or drive like Abby does & it means so much to me that she does it...for me. She sounds alot like Scotty.

I know Scotty can move along to MH.

Wow, fantastic, Tatyana! That is great that you are doing all of this with him. It is already (obviously) bridging that "gap" as he mentioned, just by having done it. Congratulations!

Tatyana I can't compliment you enough. A first time female trainer with a Lab not from hunting stock ... amazing work, young lady. I recognize the fact that Scotty is being given the credit but it's your efforts, perserverance and hard work that's made his progress possible. Keep it up, girl!

I wish more gals on Just Labs could/would have the opportunity to see first hand what these amazing animals are capable of doing. Labs are a special breed indeed. And that's from a man who's owned, trained and loved a number of breeds of gun dawgs for 52 of my 66 years.
Remi and Rusty aren't my whole life. They're trying to fill the hole in my heart left by Cappy's passing.
