Long Underware - what's the best in your opinion.
    I can't find our brand anymore >
We have Artex - and I can't find it anywhere - online or at our local stores.

It's the softest and warmest that I've found, and it fits a little loose, not tight which I LOVE.

We are all in desperate need of longjohns, especially since this is our fist winter with our cold-weather-loving-lab ;D and we are spending a lot more time outdoors (gee - thanks keb :P)

Pantagonia Capaline is the best stuff I have found. Go to any camping store or www.campmor.com and they will have it. It comes in several different "weights" depending on your level of activity.

I prefer polypropylene(sp?). Its light weight, wicks moisture and when you put a layer of fleece is over it, I stay warm, even with ice freezing on my waders. Great for high activity, such as hiking, skiing, etc.

I prefer polypro myself (the polypropylene mentioned above- almost any brand), but my sister recently introduced me to SmartWool, and in spite of the fact I HATE wool against my skin...UGH!...this stuff is some of the most soft, cotton-like stuff around and warm, warm, warm! I learned back in search and rescue training that wool is superior to just about anything as far as keeping you warm even when wet, including the newer materials. Interesting that there *may* be a wool that I can actually wear without wanting to scratch my skin off of my body! REI occasionally has some great deals on all sorts of long-underwear, especially if you go to the "REI outlet" online. Also, Cabella's has some great prices on a wide variety of things for both humans and dogs in the field.

I love Under Armor. I usually buy it at Cabela's but I think many stores carry it. It's usually pretty tight, so you might not like it (I love how tight it gets since I hate when my clothes form folds).

Do you layer it under fleece? I just can't imagine it keeping you warm, but I guess it works like the polypro and wicks moisture?

I also like the polypro and would like to try teh Smartwool. With any longjohn though a layer of silk underwear is the finest combination.

They have Under Armor underwear (longjohns) and fleece. So, yes, I usually put regular pants on the bottom and fleece on the top over Under Armor underwear. They also have it rated for different levels of cold. And I actually now remember my husband buying me some Under Armor longjohn that were not as tight as I like, so I returned them. I guess they have looser type of longjohns.

The cold gear under armour is very warm, I use it occaisionally.

I also like LL Bean Power dry, it comes in different weights.....I think it's even better.
