There were two classes, Open and Started. I should have ran Started but went for Open. People that are going to Master Nationals were running Open!!!These were shot pigeons up to 225+ yards (was the longest). It was a series of 3 shot pigeons and 3 poppers, 2, 2 and 2. Well time was against us and the last series was just the pigeon. One of the guys I train with was shooting and he GAVE Gidget a gift!! A fat floppy WHITE pigeon. This was the 225+ yards down a hill, in the pond, up the hill and to come back. She took the line to the pond PERFECTLY and then cut right to bank run!!!! :
She runs up the hill and PASSES the pigeon and then goes down the other side of the hill!!!
I cannot see her, the gunner's cannot see her. I whistle her back in and she comes up on another hill!!! She was so far away from me in another county I swear!!!! The gunner's had to help her out, she happily picks up the bird and comes back and bank runs again!!
Gidget got the award for covering the most ground. I think if the shots were 500 yards she would have scored 10's across the board!
Lucy scored in the top 15 which was really impressive out of 32 dogs. Lucy issues were handler error. Mike called for the bird before she had time to find the gunner not to mention she also bank ran!!
If you ever get a chance to do something like this, do it. It was 6 shots, all dogs get called back, not stressful AT ALL like hunt tests and trials are. If the dog breaks on the line, you still get to finish the series. It was such a learning experience with the judges and everyone else telling you what you need to work on.
Thanks for reading. I have 4 weeks to get these girls to handle and stop bank running for the first 2 legs of their SR!!

Bank running for me is tough to break. My last lab would do everything really well until he had to cross water to get to a bird on the other side. I've got a new puppy now and that is about the only thing I dread working on. Good Luck.
