i just got puppy and she didnt come with papers but is full bread from a family friend......i want to do hunting field or blind retrieve trials but only know of AKC ones near me.....is there any way to get around having papers.....i live in northern calif......thank you
You can get a ILP/PAL number from AKC for your dog. I will post a link to the website so you can down load and print it. There are both field trials and hunt tests both of which require blind retrieves in their upper levels.
because you are new to field work with labs you should join a club in your area and go volunteer to work/shoot/throw at a few tests/trials in your area. this is the best way to find clubs/classes and friends to help train your dog.
I will add a list of these also.

wow you are very lucky to live so close to so many great training grounds. Go to AKC.org and then events and awards search and then search events and look at past trials and that should give you more clubs to look thru but these should give you a good start.
Good luck and have fun
